Granbury Limestone, Sandstone and Lueders
Eagle Stone loves Granbury. Granbury was founded in 1887, when it was just a square with a log cabin for a courthouse. Much of the square’s buildings are now registered historic landmarks. This includes the Granbury Opera House, which often hosts productions that have been on Broadway. The city name came from General Hiram B. Granberry. His name was once believed to have been misspelled, but more recently it has been concluded that the General actually chose to spell his name differently. Granbury was expanded after the Brazos River was dammed in 1969, forming Lake Granbury, which flows through the city.
The school district in Granbury has of 21 campuses, including STARS Academy, Granbury High School, Granbury Middle School, Behavior Transition Center (BTC), Mambrino Elementary School, Acton Middle School, Oak Woods Elementary, Brawner Intermediate, Baccus Elementary, Acton Elementary, Emma Roberson Elementary and Nettie Elementary. Granbury’s district has been 5A since 2008. The boys’ soccer team won the Texas 4A state championship in 1999.
